I don't know about the Texas crowd, but Alison Krauss has been a favorite in my house since the days when the lesser half and I were shacking up in a drafty old trailer.

BTW, Down to the River is my five year old's favorite song. She knows it by heart.

BTW, there is no "Down by the River," but there is an "Away Down The River" and a "Down To The River To Pray," so which one are you, Dave, talking about? I assume Erin is mentioning the later tune, and that is the one I referenced in my post above, which is A Capella.

Interestingly, she was viewed as a child protegy on the fiddle long before it was discovered that she could sing. Her dobro player is widely considered to be a virtuoso of that marvelous instrument.

If you have a chance to see her perform live or catch her live performance on her DVD, you will see what a delightful, funny and engaging personality she possesses.

    I find Alison Krauss captivating.
Down By the River to Pray is one of my favorite songs. Her voice gives me goosebumps when I hear that song. I love singers who have that "plaintive wail" to them. Probably why I also like Chris Isaak so much.

Yeah, the chicks sure seem to dig him. I like the fact that you can't pigeonhole his genre. Sometimes rock, sometimes country, sometimes some sort of old standard. Very much like a Tom Waits--another of my favorites. He can really tell a story and make you feel like your sitting next to him in a greasy spoon diner.

Krauss and Plant...sounds interesting especially since I don't know much about Led Zepplin or him in particular other than being a rock muscian. Ali has taken to a lot of stretching lately, and always seems to hold up.

T Bone Burnett is an excellent player and also produced the fabulous Black and White dvd/cd of Roy Orbison with a slew of great players/singers paying tribute, as the reclusive Orbison came out of hiding before he died.

Who said they were obscure? Certainly not me. It was known to me that they were wildly popular and the center of a huge cult following - my son being one. They just announced the survivors will have a one-time reunion show to honor their dead producer.

I just have never found much connection with that kind of rock music, to my detriment. It is my philosophy that music of all kinds is there for enjoyment, and if I cannot enjoy it, then that is my loss, but, try as I will, there is something in me that prevents my connecting with a lot of music - rock music merely being one form.
