My sympathy is with you on the refrigerator duty.
Back in the early 70s we had a horrible hurricane that got us bad on the way north and then turned around and got us again.
I got pulled in to do building inspection to issue new CofOs. Many of these places didn't get pumped out for two weeks or more. Most had refrigerators and freezers in the basement. I had no idea that I could upchuck that many times in one day!
I stopped eating anything till evening.

Nice job, Ben. It's way too early for you to check out.

This is the storm that led me to gain insider knowledge of what Ben and many of his friends and neighbors are suffering.

Total damages from Hurricane Agnes amounted to about $2.1 billion (1972 USD) making it the most costly U.S. hurricane at the time. The vast majority of the damage was due to flooding, especially in the state of Pennsylvania, where $2 billion in damage occurred.
We literally had caskets floating down the Susquehanna that washed out a cemetery.

I would say that 2 or 3 gallon jugs of frozen water would have keot the frig stuff cold. And one could do that a few days before something like this event starts to show up. I keep one in the freezer just in case.

Worse thing around here is the network goes down and the wife complains.

I keep six pint bottles of HEB water in my freezer at all times...I kept the freezer door shut on my at least 20 year old GE icebox until Thursday when I pulled a bottle out to check...It was still cold but no longer ice, good to drink though...Yesterday when power returned in the afternoon, I opened both doors to find everything merely cool, and nothing frozen...The icebox was a parting gift from the divorce fairy 17 years ago...It appeared as my ex-wife departed with the almost new side by side we had just purchased...She had (unknowing to dumb me) already rented a trailer house to move into, and for some unknown reason thought it might relieve her guilt to have this old but still functional relic from her new digs installed in the newer one's place...

I decided to keep it since it still worked up until last Monday...I already found and ordered a replacement from Lowe's...As an aside, I've been told she had to replace the stolen one twice in the following years while the antique she pack-ratted in here was still working...I'll enjoy my new GE which I hope will get me through my remaining years......Ben
