The submarine and its crew were later awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for its service during the war. The honor recognizes extraordinary heroism in action.
Its skipper, Commander Sam Dealey, was posthumously awarded the US's highest military decoration, the Medal of Honor.

I first saw the list engraved on marble at the Nimitz Museum in Fredericksburg...It's an experience I'll never forget...The complete Japanese minisub that attacked Pearl Harbor is also on display there...You should read the accounting of what it took to transport it from the Hawaiian islands to the middle of the Texas plains...An engineering feat...Originally Posted by UTAH
