    Concert Review: The Rolling Stones

Wifey and I flew down to Las Vegas to attend the Rolling Stones concert at Allegiant Stadium, May 11th. I went in skeptical, pretty sure I'd see old rockers going through the motions of their old act. Instead, I saw The Stones put on a stellar performance that is unmatched in comparison to others I've seen over the years.

Jagger was extraordinarily dynamic - his vocals as strong as ever. Each band member performed a solo guitar lead (including a bass) dispersed sporadically through the show. And, they didn't just play. It was apparent they enjoyed doing what we paid to see them do.

The Stones are all millionaires who could simply stop performing at all. For me, it says something that they don't do so. I was left with the feeling they got as much out of the performance as we did.

Typically, the sound quality of bands in a stadium setting is awful - not with these guys. Hundreds of high watt speakers (Klipsch horns & traditional cones) placed around the stadium were surprisingly crisp and clear. Distortion was heard only when the band purposefully introduced it.

The stage was part of a huge Viva Vision (e.g., Fremont Street Experience) display about 100 yards wide. That gave incredible definition and light control to the techs displaying the visuals. It would also be much more comfortable for the band, as new electronic displays don't put out the heat incandescent bulbs do.

The highlight of the show, for me, was when the band performed Like A Rolling Stone by Bob Dylan. It was one of the first rock songs I heard as a teen - and I identified with it. To hear the song performed by one of the world's top acts was incredibly satisfying.

Yeah, saw the AARP people at a concession stand there. Fitting, as the audience members around me were some of the oldest people I've seen at a rock concert.

Wowzers.. sounds like a great time.. Our last concert adventure was pre-Covid, turning into senintary slackers.. I have to bring earplugs now, a geezer thing I guess..

Saw the Stones a RFK stadium in DC for $25.00 a ticket.. then unknown Counting Crows opened for them.. 1994..

Glad that you had a good time.. jealous..

Yeah, just a bit of inflation with their prices now. Our two tickets were $750 for The Stones.

    It was an impulse buy..

We were taking our High School age daughter to see an IMAX movie in DC.. as we are parking at the subway, the radio announces a second night added for the Stones.. tickets available.. the (now) Macys with ticketron is above our subway stop so we go in and check.. the ticketron clerk started at $400.00.. and then started reading lower prices the further from the stage.. when sh got to upper section, upper deck (center stage view) she said $25.00.. a quick nod to Spousal Unit and daughter is asking if she would like to see the stones..

    An impulse buy..

A buddy who is a strong Stones lover said it was a good show!

I've seen them 3 times so good enough for me.

I'm thinking we're fortunate enough to have the remaining Stones we've got now.

An impulse buy that's a good deal is outstanding. And, may I be able to say I saw the Stones three times someday as well.

Don't particularly like them in general, have seen them live one time at legion field in Birmingham Alabama. Great show. I will have to agree with their deceased drummer that Mick Jagger is the greatest frontman in rock and roll history.

Jagger is 15 years older than me yet bounced around on stage like a teenager. I pretty much found my seat and got up only to use the restroom. Man, how does a man who's slurped up so much booze and drugs doing so well at 80 years old? It's amazing.

Unlimited access to the best medical care that science can give. Probably frequent full body scans, monthly checkups, you get it all the things that we can't access because of expense.

Yes, possibly. I think back to Men In Black, where some of our stars (like Elvis) were said to be aliens ("Elvis is not dead. He just went home").
