At one time I was one
After getting out of the Army I briefly got involved in the John Birch Society--which was a conservative political group. I didn't last long because it was mostly simple bitching without direction or purpose.
This morning, while reviewing a document from The Southern Poverty Law Center, who has documented 1,255 active hate and antigovernment groups in the United States, I see that the John Birch Society has made the list
I had no idea that they were even around any longer

I hear of the Birchers occasionally in a mostly derogatory manner, but other than reading the Wikipedia article I never investigated further...I recall your previous mention of involvement, Dave...As of now I'm neutral in my thoughts of them...Now, on to the gun show!......Ben

Joe---I have to think, to make the "grade" with others on that list they have to be smack up against the rino right
Reading further Barry Goldwater might have been a member---and it seems they were a forerunner to the current rino conspiracy crowd.

When I returned home from Uncle Sam’s care.. x22yo…. Politics was way down on my priorities.. lived on pizza and beer.. worked crazy hours, for great $$$ (I left for the Navy as a Union apprentice, due to a paperwork snafu I returned as a Journeyman, I didn’t correct the error)..
Nope.. no politics..

A friend of mine told me that very few of the members knew who John Birch was or why he might be important.
He went on to say there seemed to be an overall paranoia that saw communists behind every tree---I guess a little like joe mccarthy and his pre-maga clan
