I did not vote for Reagan but respected him. For, when I was a child my parents would point out his home when we'd drive by it. And, I thought his governorship was a good thing.

When Reagan was shot, I cut classes at the U of U to sit in my car and listen to the radio reports about it. Those were dark days and I don't want our children or future generations to go through another such shooting.

The secret is out why the “Reagan Foundation” has issued letters to Trump — the board of the Reagan Foundation like so many foundations and NGO’s has been infested with the hard-core leftist scum the originator of the institution despised. Like rats, when one gets in the attic or on your board they breed and multiply until there is nothing else but them eating through the walls and wiring.

The Washington Post’s CEO and publisher, Fred Ryan, serves as chairman of the board of trustees for the foundation, which maintains and sustains the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library!

Funny, I was engaged with “certain” activities (church mission) in Belgium and France. The only news we got was from Time, Newsweek, and the International Herald Tribune, if we had time, a little money and could find them.

Good to hear, Scooter. Many members of my family, some of them female, did missions for the LDS Church. Even my Nephew, who was robbed twice and came back from the Dominican Republic with broken limbs says, "It was the greatest experience of my life." Listening to his stories about it, I believe him. My Brother aims to be a Missionary when he retires.

It was one of the most incredibly difficult experiences of my life. Imagine going door to door, every single day, and seldom getting in. Then having a long list of rules that you are supposed to follow. All while living on ~$400 a month, Self supported from savings, including rent. At 19, you learn a lot about yourself. I don’t regret a minute of it, and look forward to one with my wife, where the work is a lot more pleasant, and the budget is not nearly as tight.

We have a “special neighbor “.. he welcomes the missionaries (Mormon Boys) and then gives then a “tent revival “ style talking to.. leaves their heads spinning.

When I’m work I the front, I invite them to stop, I have sodas in the garage.. give them a little break. Had two teams that stopped by regularly for the shade and free soda..

But I won’t talk “business “.. when they insist, I answer questions with questions..

One team was at the church (Ward?) where I I attended the funeral.. the look on their faces when they saw me was priceless.. that was the funeral my Gentile self was thrown out of.. :) :)

Since we are sharing some LDS stories I will tell one. I have a client that is based in SLC so I was in and out of there and Park City all the time. I remember my first trip and I was amazed at how wide the streets were around the LDS campus. I was then told the stories about when they were building the church they needed the wide roads to get the materials in to build everything. I got a little free time and walked all around the complex. It is stunning. So I thought to myself I am not coming this far with out seeing the church so I lugged up all those steps and walked in and a young man was at the desk and I said I was from out of town and wanted to see the inside of the church. He said sure can I see your card. I said what card and he said your LDS membership card. I told him I was not a member and then he told me I was not allowed inside. I red faced marched back down the stairs thinking I had made a fool of myself.

I had incidents like Sandman, they would come by my house all the time, at the time I was rather adept with bible teachings and used to have fun stumping/arguing with them nicely. My ex hated them just because but I ended up making quite a few friends out of the whole thing. They brought their deacon a couple of times and he brought his next in line another couple of times. I had salt water tanks at the time and used to feed the gold fish to the Morays, Lionfish etc...when they were there. I think that was one of the reasons I had so many visits:flip: but we always had a good discussion about stuff.

I have a friend who tells the story of being visited by a couple of the missionaries who he invited in at a time before videos and progressed to his kitchen, where he was in the middle of running a hardcore porno movie projected on to his refrigerator. He relished describing the look on their faces and the hasty retreat out the door.

I enjoy visiting with LDS Missionaries. They are usually from all around the states as well as coming in from foreign countries.

It's a tough but fulfilling job to be a missionary. They are often poor by choice, getting by on minimal funds so as to save money. And, they can be lonely, far from their family and friends. As such, my wife and I try to treat them well. They've got a tough enough time as it is.

The only “talking to” I have given was for riding their bikes after dark in black clothing.

We have family friends, dad converted to LDS.. good kids.. good family.. but.. our friends and the missionary’s don’t have a clue about basic mainline Christianity .. dad does from his childhood but he keeps his mouth shut and goes along with the program.. the church has an excellent social life..

But.. LDS has been extremely successful so there is something there that I just don’t understand.. all of those people must be on to something..

A couple of things, the reason the streets are so wide is so that Wagins could turn in the streets with a team of horses. Unlike cities on the east coast, they were able to design their city from the ground up, and weren’t following game and cattle trails, so why not make it practical.
As for the church, anyone is welcome into a regular meeting house, the temples are considered sacred, and you need to have a temple recommend to get in. Basically, have a testimony of God, and Jesus Christ, acknowledge priesthood authority in the church, pay a full tithing of 10% of your income, and be morally clean, meaning only sex inside marriage. There are a lot of members of the church that don’t qualify. Being the guy at the desk in a temple, you are not the only one that didn’t understand the difference between the two. It is funny, because as a house of worship, temples are closed on sunday.

Yeah, they are basically teenage boys on their own for the first time. Of course they would like to see gold fish get mangled. They probably brought members of the local congregation or ward. It is often effective at establishing a relationship.

Riding the bikes is a lot different now than when I was on a mission 40 years ago. They are required to wear helmets now. We weren’t. They should have lights on their bikes, because that is local law, but they would probably rather spend a couple of dollars on food instead of light repairs. As far as not having a clue about mainline christianity, that is kind of like saying QT doesn’t have a clue about Circle K. They know they are out there, they should respect other churches, but most did not grow up in another church, so the LDS lifestyle is all they are really comfortable with.
