Will The Coming Tesla Roadster Be The Quickest Road Legal Factory Car Ever?

The Roadster will go 620 miles on a charge of the 200 kilowatt-hour battery pack, which tops any electric on the road. But the Roadster won’t be competitive just with other electric cars, but will rival the performance of any vehicle on the road today.

The price is squarely in supercar territory, too. The first cars will be “Founder’s Editions,” selling for a lofty $250,000—with the full amount due at reservation time. Only 1,000 will be built. After that, the car will go down to $200,000, and you’ll need a $50,000 deposit to get in line...”

Judging by the configuration of the seats it also has extreme performance in the braking department.

The current model beats that by a few thousand times. It is currently traveling at 4,515 mph.

Ha yeah. These hi tech electric motors are far in advance of fuel burners. Mercedes just invested a billion or so in battery development near their plant in Tuscaloosa Al. It is definitely where things are heading.

I have no need for a 200 mph car in a 75 mph world. I see a lot of high performance cars around town and none of them are being driven anywhere near their ability.

After seeing this yesterday I got one of my partners who owns a Tesla to take me for a quick spin. I can only describe it as weird as hell. The electric motor is very quite. The weirdness come in when she mashed the pedal and I was slung back into my seat and all I heard was a whirling sound. The acceleration was scary quick.

You could go visit Utah, they get to do 80 mph up there. :)
