Now that Texas has legalized guns in vehicles in most cases, I might start carrying one in my truck, but I do not know a good way to do that while making a pistol both quickly accessible to me and not readily observable to prying eyes or thieves. Anyone have ideas along those lines? I’m assuming Ben has no such compunctions of concealability with that hog’s leg he carries.
Joe, there are more than one considerations to be taken in your question...I have noted in the past that the most convenient, secure and comfortable way to carry in the vehicle is in a crossdraw holster...Think about it, you do not have to wear the holster at all times unless you want to...Using a simple IWB clip-on crossdraw allows you to leave both holster and pistol (I assume we're talking about your .40 Kahr) in the vehicle, for instance in glove box or console...Then upon entering your vehicle simply tuck gun/holster in your pants using the clip over your waistband...While driving, the gun is immediately available without taking your eyes off the road or the situation demanding attention...It is secure and invisible to prying eyes from outside the driver's seat...It is accessible without even taking hands off the wheel...
Another way is what I used when I still drove my beloved 2003 Dodge...Its 40/20/40 split bench allowed me to put a velcro backed soft holster between the driver's seat and jumpseat securely where I tucked my Gold Cup as I got in...I carry strong side and this gave me instant access where my hand expected it to be...I kept a Dodge hat over the protruding grip to hide it from casual glances from outside the truck...When I exited the truck, I simply put the gun in my strong side holster as I egressed...
Think about those two options and see if either one can fit your needs...Others just leave it on the seat where a sudden stop or collision can result in an unwanted move from where you expect it to be...Some leave it in the glove box or console where it might be secure from movement, but requiring extra movement on your part and taking your attention away from your current situation in order to access it...Or you could quit being such a wimp, and just carry it at all times wherever it's most accessible for you...

A friend of mine mounted a holster to a piece of finished plywood and bolted that to the inside of his console. It takes up minimal space, it is secure, out of sight and accessible.
Personally, I wasn't as concerned with accessibility as I was capacity and took a different route :thinker::flash:
