Complications of Pneumonia, he was a heack of a man and actor. Met him at SHOT one year & he was a humble soft spoken man....
Favorite movie of his is The Siege of Freebase Gloria, he wrote it and aces in it and it was filmed in the PI in 89.....
Interesting fact:
Ermey was not originally cast as the gunnery sergeant in the movie Full Metal Jacket, he was a technical adviser for the actor intended to play the role. Ermey recorded tapes and wrote authentic drill sergeant dialogue to inspire the actor. After director Stanley Kubrick heard the tapes and read the dialogue, he removed the actor and gave Ermey the role. Kubrick allowed Ermey to write all of his own dialogue.
