Be sure and watch the second video to illustrate why police officers are trained to shoot to end the threat not slow it down.
I don't see the charge, but I would have handled it much differently than that officer did. As long as he was not attacking anybody I would have called for back up and contained him the best I could until help got there with enough power to disable him.

It's always easy to say "I would have done this, or I would have done that" from the comfort and safety of a living room couch. This officer had already given the suspect a full ride on a taser, which had no effect. Ever see what one strike from a ball bat can do to a human head? I have, it's not pretty. The cop is not only resonsible for his own safety, but that of everyone else in the store as well. If anyone needs to be charged in this case, it is the prosecutor who is pressing charges for political reasons, and the person who wrote that article who had to use the adjectives white and black to refer to the participants. What, you can't write a story simply saying a policeman shot a man wielding and threatening customers with a baseball bat? Of course not, that might sound reasonable and not stir up the community.
And as far as Megyn Kelley's video, police do not shoot to kill, and no police officer who has proper training will tell you that they are. They are trained to shoot to "stop the threat" Once the threat is neutralized, the shooting stops. You can't just pump rounds into a guy on the ground to "kill him" The fact that the best way to "shoot to stop a threat" is multiple rounds in rapid succession to center mass often results in death is just a by product.

Here's a video of a guy who made a career out of 2nd guessing and criticizing police use of force. He went through some scenarios (even knowing they are scenarios and there's no real danger) and the first thing he does is shoot an unarmed individual.

Look, I completely agree with the activist DA political deal. It is a real problem. Being a former police officer who was shot in the line of duty and also shot several persons I think I have a little more credibility than someone sitting on the comfort of their couch. If I could see the body cam I could be better informed. From the video I never saw the guy swing the bat at anybody. I am not saying it was unjustified, I am just going by what I saw. If I were on the jury would I convict him, not a chance. I will restate I think the situation could possibly been handled without deadly force.Quote:
