I miss those...When I was still pulling wrenches, some ladies would often come by the shop with an Igloo cooler full of them, fresh made from scratch that morning and always $3 a dozen...:yum:...Ben
Whenever we go to the place in Rosarito Mx there is a lady that comes around each morning with 5 gallon buckets full. they are a staple.
I wish we had one around here. We used to have a food truck come to the office called The tamale Queen. They were very good but they weren't as good as the ones I used to get from my friend Joe mancha. They were handmade and fresh everyday. They went away when he passed.
My Grandma in El Paso made the husk-rolled Tamales. Man, they were so good.

I read that tamales are a cult thing in Southern Mississippi for some unknown reason, and they pride themselves on them there. Seems out of place to me, but I’m game to try them next time I’m passing through. I love a good tamale, but the good ones seem to be getting hard to find around here. From what I have been experiencing the last few years, people want to take a fine thing made perfect for 150 years and improve on it by making the things big & fat. That never works. The proportions should not be messed with. A tamale is what a tamale is and always has been.

Incidentally, Christmas time is the traditional time when Mexicans really focus on tamales. I’m quite sure there are some really good ones I have missed here in San Antonio.
