Checking in
Down at my sister's. Dad has got a few hours left. O2 sat of60%, agonal breathing, heart rate 120 unconscious. Hospice nurse is keeping him comfortable with morphine. He had a good 96 year run. The family is here and we are comfortable with the end. He is in his own room in his own bed with family as it should be.

Having recently endured this with my own Mom, Eric, you have my heartfelt sympathy...:peace:...Ben

Hang in there man you're really tough guy and like you said he had a good long run it's never easy but at least you had a long time with him

Dad passed away peacefully at 8:10 this morning. I'm glad that I got the opportunity to say goodbye.

It's a rare opportunity, Eric...I was sitting with my Mom when she passed away...It was about 45 minutes before the hospice nurse returned and pronounced her...I didn't look at as an advantage at the time, but now I'm glad I had those few minutes alone to say goodbye...It helped...:flower:...Ben

I'll always remember being with dad. He had memory loss and one time he would wake up as a boy relating climbing the water tower or playing baseball. Other times it was like in the present. Unfortunately do to travel/work, I wasn't with him when he passed the day after I left. But we had some great times when he was awake.
Glad you can have those precious times with him.

I lost my father almost thirty years ago. I was lucky to have visited him for a weekend a couple of days he passed. I wish I knew some words to help you, Eric, but the best I can say is I feel your pain. Best wishes, my friend. Time is the best medicine.

Thanks guys, but I am fine. He had a great life and went out the way he wanted when he was good and ready. I am just glad that I got to spend his last 36 hours with him and could say good bye. Amazing to see the heartfelt love everyone gave him yesterday. He was a hell of a guy, I was so fortunate to be adopted by him and mom as a day old infant. They gave me a great upbringing and made me the made that I am today.

So great that you got to say goodbye and that he seemed like he was good with it also. When one of those wives of mine grandfather died at 89 never having been sick a day in his life I thought it was great, wrong! Turns out god is scum etc... etc... and they were going to do something about it blah blah. I tried to tell them the story of my parents that would have to make anybody fill good, but no they were going to be a miserable, period.
Glad your well Eric, sorry for your loss.

May God's grace comfort and heal you and your family Eric.
