Feeding my obsession
I made another high volume buy of hot peppers from my new green grocer. Amish and Mennonite have very bland tastes, so it is interesting to see them "read" the market correctly and plant things they don't eat themselves.
My "new guy", however, is the only one I have seen growing Habaneros.
I bought another load from him this week, most of which are now in the dehydrator in preparation for storage. As needed, I will grind them in a Krups coffee mill (reserved for that purpose alone). But, thinking back to when I grew my own I recall making a hot pepper relish which I froze in small batches. So, today, with the overflow from the dehydrator I will make fresh pepper relish---and increase my overall winter inventory:hatoff:
I am also going to try the pepper relish with olive oil. Common in SE Asia, (they use common vegetable oil) and is found on the table in most any Thai or Vietnamese restaurants.

Ahhh… this one reminds me of a Habanero experience.
I was wandering the grounds of the Utah State Prison when I noticed an interesting looking cluster of greenhouses. As I showed interest, several inmates suddenly showed interest too. I noted that as significant and moved closer. I pulled a couple of guards along and went in. I could see amongst the planted flowers a row of plants I did not recognize. Then, it hit me, they were Habanero plants - with dozens of Habaneros on them. I posted several staff around the area and called in the Duty Commander. We set up a staff group to destroy the plants. And, we ended up with some embarrassed security personnel who tried to explain what had happened. But, the important thing was, we got rid of the menace. It was also a good training experience. For, what inmates do is they make a slurry out of the peppers and can use that to attack staff. I know I would not want to be hit with the slurry, and I did not want our staff hit with it either.
Those were the good 'ole days. Sometimes, I miss them. All of the little things like this seemed so important at the time.
Good stuff, Dave. Sorry for the short departure from reality.

Did you consider that maybe they just wanted to spice up their gruel?

Very interesting story Bill---and a twist I never saw coming
BTW---the pepper relish and olive oil makes the perfect frying medium for my eggs---they get really happy
