Are those props the "standard props" or are they a step up for carrier operations?
Wikipedia says C-2's primary function is carrier/land shuttle...All C-2's were upgraded from four to eight blade props in 2010...:nerd:...Ben
They also have a range of 1,500 miles, so a carrier doesn't have to be close to a land base to send or receive...:march:...Ben
Very nice---thank you :bowdown::bowdown:
This is the C-2's educated counterpart, the E-2C from which the C-2 was developed...Notice the slimmer fuselage on the E-2...The C-2 was widened from the original design to accommodate passengers and cargo...The C-2 can transport complete jet engines from ship to shore as needed...E-2C performs EWAC duties at sea...:wary:...Ben

At first I thought that was the same type that the Chinese took down in 2001. I was in China at the time and that was front page news on every paper every day. The civilian government left the military puff up their chests and make a big deal of it.
I remember that incident...What I did not know was that the Chinese refused to allow the EP-3E to be flown out of China under its own power...It had to be disassembled and flown back to the US on a Russian Antonov AN-124...After repair it resumed duty in the South China Sea...:stir:...Ben
In looking at the videos above, I'm reminded that these aircraft operate in all kinds of weather at sea, flying in gale-force winds and launching and recovering in heavy seas...Lt. Col. (later Lt. General) Jimmy Doolittle pioneered this type of launch with similar size aircraft when he led his B-25 squadron off the USS Hornet 77 years ago...Since it was only theoretically possible, Doolittle made himself the very first to launch that morning, proving it could be done...Seas were moderately heavy as Hornet turned into the wind, and the pilots waited for their go signals, timed to launch while the bow was at the top of a wave...
As Doolittle released the brakes and surged forward, a rogue wave appeared at the bow just as his aircraft cleared the deck...He flew directly into the water and down out of sight from the deck...I can imagine that every breath on deck suddenly came to a stop until Doolittle managed to power his aircraft through the water and start to gain altitude...The 15 B-25's that followed him did not have to fly through water to become airborne...I doubt whether any other pilot on the planet could have performed that launch and kept his nerve...And they all did it without the assist of a catapult launch...:usa:...Ben
Yes they did...Much the same as the crew of USS Pueblo before they were taken over...51 years and 9 useless, cowardly Presidents later this United States property is still being held prisoner in Pyongyang Harbor shown below...:pissed:...Ben
