Geneva (CNN)Swedish automaker Koenigsegg claims its recently unveiled Jesko supercar should be able to achieve speeds of 300 miles per hour.

While the company hasn't been able to prove it yet, if true, that would make the Koenigsegg Jesko the fastest street legal production car in the world — by a wide margin. The current record holder is generally understood to be Koenigsegg's Agara RS, which this car is replacing. An Agara RS went 278 miles an hour on a Nevada Highway in 2017

I don't understand the desire to own a 200 mph car when you live in a 80 mph world... Probably could not fit in it anyway.

You can travel on our salt flats just West of SLC as fast as you want. I go out there every fall to see the speed trials. It just doesn't cost that much to make a car fast. And, we'd have some fun doing it.

The fastest car I had was a MB SL with a V-12 that would do about 150+ MPH. However, those speeds were not recommended because tires, at the time, could not handle that kind of force.

That's an automotive work of Art. I would love to spend an hour or two looking at the engineering that went into building that car. It's indeed beautiful

I’ve a few Lexus LS models, each of which would do 150mph because I did that in every one, but they all got light & floaty at speed, so I do not recommend it. Anytime I push them all I could think of was tires, tires, tires. I had a Jaguar XJS V-12 back in the day and all it would do was a bit over 140 (the thing was north of 4000 lbs. and aero dynamics of a brick) and all I could think of when topping it out was brakes, brakes, brakes because they were pitiful. Made you want to lean out and drag something.

The thing I've noticed about cars at high speed is how vastly different they handle. Some get squirrely while others actually seem made to handle it.

One of the worst cars I've driven fast was a 1964 Corvette I owned. The damn thing looked beautiful but it was literally scary at high speeds. It's interesting you mention Jaguars - which was my brothers favorite car. Me, I went for the Corvettes - and still miss owning them.

You want to feel squirrely... 140 mph in 1/4 mile on 2 wheels with the front wheel off the ground for most of it. When it comes down and you get the death wobble and can't lift off the throttle...

That light and floaty feeling is something I do not like at all---guaranteed to slow me down. By far the majority of my high speed driving has been in Europe but I tend to self limit at 125 mph. I am often humbled at that speed to look in the mirror and see headlights FAR behind me as I am moving to the right----and they blow by me almost as soon as I am out of their way:AHHH:

My own worst drive, believe it or not, was a Corvair Spider which sported a factory turbo. I had rebuilt the turbo---and read Nader's infamous book, which I dismissed. At the time I was living in Indiana and I took it out on a county road for a test drive. At about 100 mph a tractor pulled out on the road---way ahead but obviously I needed to slow down. When the suspension changed from acceleration to deceleration that thing became a self guided sled----it was so alarming I had to try it again just to be sure----:o:

I went back to the shop, parked it and told the customer the best thing he could do was get rid of it:bleh:

I learned the hard way about vulnerability on a motorcycle @ 50mph. I can’t imagine doing 140mph on one, much less on one wheel most of it.

Back to the OT---3 million is chicken feed in this garage.

The Corvair turbos were all 1965 models and above, I believe, which had independent suspensions radically different from the pre-1965 swing-axle models Nader excoriated. I bought a new 1965 non-turbo in ‘65 and loved that car. The rear weight bias did have a negative impact on hard breaking though. One day driving it in Waco the weather uncharacteristically turned icy and we Texas drivers were making fools of ourselves all over the roads. I, in my Corvair, took off and with all that weight in the back I found excellerating was a piece of cake, so I had undeserved confidence in my ride. That was until I came to a stop light on red with a car in front of me stopped, and I applied the brakes in the usual manner only to find zero traction as the brakes locked up and the ice took over. I remember time slowing down, as I saw the inevitable, but halfway through the slide the light turned green and the car moved on through the intersection as I slid right up behind him/her with just enough space to not hit. I don’t think the driver ever saw what was happening. From that I thoroughly learned that Corvair worked exceptionally well in icy conditions excellerating and exceptionally poorly stopping in them.

Still loved the car and hated Ralph Nader though.

Had I not transitioned from high speed acceleration to deceleration quickly I may never have realized there was a problem. Within that transition, the car was memorably uncontrollable.

This is the one I was looking for.

Rimac Concept One was a quick car, to begin with, but shot to fame when Richard Hammond rolled it down a hill and it was burnt to a crisp. The new one though, the C_Two is a step ahead with its four in-wheel electric motors that make a combined power of 1888 hp and 2300 Nm of torque. Yep, that's an insane upgrade from the 1224 hp and 1600 Nm of the previous car. And the Rimac C_Two isn't based on the Concept One and has been developed from the ground up. Range between charges is 640 km and does 0-100 km/h in 1.85 seconds and a top speed of 413 km/h.

Saw an article saying that the new Corvette engine is so powerful that it is warping the frame. No remarks on top speed.
