'Maurice Ravel) Bolero - Sungha Jung ' is one of the very few real talented guitar players. Today we have a rash of crappy-voiced inept untalented guitar strummers playing pure garbage.
I still like Leon Redbone...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGUW0uAwDyw
Redbone is great. He chords on the guitar very precisely in good music style - with augmented, diminished, 7th and 6th chords, chords that lead to the next chord. Most of the current slock guitar player just know the 'major' chords in the key they're playing.
Here is something a little different. Mike, a friend of ours Keith Davis (Islandpiper) built this violin in 2004 and sold it to a young man from Mexico in 2005. He has played the violin in the National Symphony of Mexico and in some European venues. The young man's father sent this three year old video to Keith.

If, like me, you've never attended a live performance of his, it looks like it's too late...His own website has this statement:
Wikipedia lists health reasons for his retirement...I remember seeing him several times on Johnny Carson's late night show where he was an infrequent guest...YouTube has most of those appearances...Quote:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Leon Redbone, the legendary folk/jazz/roots performer has retired from both public appearances and recording. 5/19/15
I've always liked his rendition of "Polly Wolly Doodle All Day"...:cash:...Ben

I saw Redbone in a Houston appearance many years ago as an opening act for George Carlin. Just sang, no chatter, as you would expect, but very entertaining in a genre all but vacant without him. My favorite of his has been I Hate A Man Like You.

Here's someone most have not heard — Roderick Dixon, an opera singer and original member of Three 'Mo Tenors. Their first dvd of a show they performed was stunning to me, but none of the many fine tunes were better than Dixon's, A Song For You. If you are going to take on that iconic tune, you better be with it because you are severely exposed. He brings it...see if you agree —

Below is someone else with chops singing the same song, The Genius —

Both good, Joe...I had not heard either version before......Ben
Dance with my Father Again.
While listening to other selections from the Three Mo Tenors I found this. With Holy Week coming up this will certainly will be heard more--and never fails to cause me to have blurry vision. This might be the best version of this classic I have ever heard.
While I'm on spiritual music, here is another one that brings tears to my eyes at the first words.
I went looking for some of Keith Emerson music and finding a "new" channel on Sirius, #27 Deep Tracks. They had done a tribute to his music and recording he did as a solo artist, hope you like these two.

Rock on. :)
Dave,
Three Mo Tenors are good. Very easy to listen to. I had never heard of them before. Here is four more tenors and this is one of my favorites.

Dan mentioned this fellow earlier I think.

Damn! He's good! That kid is only 10 years old.
Now for something different —

I think I've posted this before or maybe somebody else did and I copied it, either way it is quite beautiful as is the young musician.

Here's a throwback from my youth — Johnny Mathis and a favorite of mine, Windmills Of Your Mind. I usually hardly notice the lyrics of a song, but these always intrigue me, plus it's in a minor key, which I gravitate to.

OK.. let's move into a more modern era..
Meet Susanna Hoffs.. Lead singer and rhythm guitar for the Bangels.. After a long break and a couple of kids she is back.. A more mature and mellow 50 something.. Following is a ten year old solo cover of "Different Drummer",,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRO5ZZuJGYI
At a later date we can revisit her with her Rickenbacker and the other Bangles..

Has it really been that many years since Walk Like An Egyptian?
I never remember Hoffs as a fine singer, but she did have a certain talent —
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7zzGQJHZ0Qk
Was watching something on TV ant part of the score was "Hazy Shade of Winter" (Simon & Garfinkul cover) by the Bangales.. So I looked it up on YouTube.. Listings mostly were for The Bangles with Susannah Hoff.. So I looked up Susannah Hoffs..
Have a few more "they were discoveries for me" in queue..
Just found this. This guy is very talented in a different sort of way. After listening to the first listen to the second one. Amazing.

In addition to doing things with his voice that I've never heard before, Michael Winslow is funny as hell...He was in some of the Police Academy and Cheech & Chong movies...:2funny:...Ben

Ok.. I’ll stick to the humor theme.. Audio NSFW..
Doyle and Debbie.. They are not a real singing group.
This is a Songwriter/Playwright and a professional actress performing a scripted show, a parody of country music..

The incomparable Alison Krauss & Jerry Douglas paying testiment to Paul Simon —
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hci5q3G6-FA
Since there are a lot of Alison Krauss fans here, I found where she paired up with one of my favorite ladies, Emmylou Harris, on an old Everly Brothers hit......Ben
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=911ucMla-Do&nohtml5=False
I never knew until today that Emmylou ever recorded with the Chieftains...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Awh46Dgf5Lo
Of course the Chieftains by themselves were never slouches...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=El2_49xLAF0
In a most unlikely collaboration, the Chieftains backed up the Rolling Stones' Mick Jagger on this rendition of the Lefty Frizzell classic, "Long Black Veil"...

My wife and I went to a concert last year of trumpeter, Chris Botti. It was one of the best concert we have ever attended. I like many kinds of music, but instrumental music by a master of an instrument is a particular favorite of mine. My being an old horn player, the rare opportunity to have an entire concert fronted by a trumpet player, is indeed a treat.
As it has turned out, my wife contracted a rare auto-immune disease shortly after the concert, the treatment of which leaves her unprotected from infections, and the effects of which make it imperative she stay out of crowds ending her attending any more concert ever. At least her last live concert was a terrific and memorable event.
Botti has several dvd's out, and I think we have them all.
